Dominika Piekarska

Dominika Piekarska is originally from Poland, now living in South West Kerry Ireland since 2012. She is an emerging visual artist who works mostly in oil and acrylic painting. With a background in Psychology (MA), she is currently developing her artistic practice on Iveragh Peninsula, after studying various skills and techniques in oil painting and gaining a reputation for her landscapes.

 

Her work focuses on capturing the environment’s mood and she finds beauty even in the simple and mundane. She creates dark and dramatic paintings offset by vibrant colours with a proficiency in capturing the atmosphere of a “place”. She participates in solo and group exhibitions and has been awarded numeourus artist residencies (Cill Rialaig Artist Retreat, Tyrone Guthrie Centre).

 

In March 2022 Piekarska was awarded Creative Work Development Bursary towards creating a series of paintings for her solo show called “Serenity”, which was opened by the Polish Ambassador to Ireland HE Anna Sochańska and hosted by the Cill Rialaig Arts Centre in Ballinskelligs.

 

Piekarska works also in illustration and drawing. In 2022 she was commissioned by the National Institute of Rural Culture and Heritage in Warsaw to create a series of illustrations which were then turned into a children’s board game and published in 2023 The project educates children about traditional Polish costumes from nine different etnographic regions.

 

Before moving to Ballinskelligs, Piekarska lived in Killarney and during that time she completed City & Guilds accredited training in decorative painting techniques. She holds Postgraduate Certificate in Illustration, Comic Book Design and Elements of Concept Art. Piekarska is a professional member of Visual Artists Ireland.
