STUDIO 8 Kerry Contemporary launched their first exhibition as a group together in the Greenlane Gallery as part of this year’s Féile na Bealtaine. The exhibition ‘Home and Place’ opened on Friday 1st May with renowned Irish artist John Coll. The opening night was a great success with a fantastic turnout. The group were delighted with such positive feedback and look forward to working on their next project.
Studio 8 is a contemporary artists collective based in Kerry. The group comprises of eight, all graduates from nationally accredited fine art degree courses. The group’s objective is to present and promote contemporary art in the region.
The artists are; Des Fitzgerald, Elouise Flannery, Kathy Hurley, Joseph Keating, Margaret O’ Connell, Dairmaid O’ Sullivan, Miroslava Pavelkova and Barbara Reen, working in various mediums including sculpture, mixed media, photography, print, textiles, paint and video.
The work presented in this exhibition ‘Home and Place’ is intended to address the perception of memory and the connection to people, place and culture. These ideas are expressed individually and in a collaborative piece.
