‘Three Sisters’, Oil on Panel, 12 x 24 Inches, €3,200
Michael Flaherty is best known for his rich landscapes of the Dingle Peninsula. Born in Cloghane, Brandon, Co. Kerry, he paints the landscape, or an object, or an animal, that is familiar to him but that is filtered through his imagination. In his interpreted response his colours are heightened, scenes intensified, and the sense of movement present is given a vivacity that captures the West Kerry environment that he knows and loves so well. He paints spontaneous, lyrical compositions that bring to mind artists as diverse as Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Henry and Sean Mc Sweeney.
